Japanese stretch yarn is a soft and smooth elastic yarn with stretchability that sets in after a steam. It puts the FUN in functional.. truly! It may not look like anything special but give it a good iron and watch the stitches shrink in front of your very eyes! It is a versatile yarn, use it to add stretch to garments or knit it on it's own. Combine with a non stretch yarn for some funky textures. The composition makes it ideal base for some fun post treatments like heat transfer printing!

Works well with… 
Jersey and double bed stitches like 1x1 rib or wider rib for a sporty look. Use as "elastic" to give reinforcement to parts of a garment that gets a workout. For example, to neck bands, sleeve cuffs, sock cuffs etc. Just add 1-2 ends together with your main yarn when knitting. Give it a steam when you finish and watch the magic happen.

  1. Hand feel swatch is 2 ends of BLACK NOIR knitted on standard domestic on tension 2.
  2. Creative swatch is fair isle punchcard knitted in BLACK NOIR and fine mercerised cotton in LAVENDER on standard gauge. 

Standard domestics: minimum 2 ends depending on stretch desired.
Dubied 7gg -12gg: 1 end.

Cover cone with stocking when knitting, it helps to regulate the tension.

HOW THICK IS THIS YARN?

Our yarn thickness is measured using the NM count, the industry standard in the textile world. This differs from ply, which is commonly used for hand knitting yarns. To help you visualize the yarn's thickness, we've compared it to everyday items.

This yarn is similar thickness to dental floss, but obviously much nicer!

Finishing:
Use steam press to set the shape.

Washing:
Dry clean is recommended.
Hand wash only in cold or lukewarm not exceeding 30℃ using neutral soap.
Do not bleach or tumble dry.
Dry flat in the shade.
Iron at low heat with piece of cloth separating knit and iron.

How accurate are the colours?

What is your return policy?

We want you to love your purchase so if it’s not what you expected, we are happy to refund – no stress!

We have a 30 day return policy, get in touch with us at info@knitinprogress.com so we can process it for you. Please ensure the yarns are returned to us in their original condition and weight. In addition to a refund we can also provide you with store credit or exchange on purchases that meet our return standards. As we are a small business, we cannot refund return postage costs.

  • Can I use your yarns to hand knit, crochet or weave?

    Of course! We have stock a range of thicknesses from super fine to chunkier yarns for all your creative projects.

  • How do I know what size yarn is right for my machine?

    We’ve done all the groundwork so you don’t need to!

    Scroll up to view the ‘MACHINE SUGGESTION’ section where we have machine and knit recommendations for each yarn.

  • What's the difference between hand and machine knit yarn?

    Machine knit yarn is coned yarn for even tension and has more strength than hand knit yarn. You can use both interchangeably but the biggest difference would be the stretch and strength machine knitting yarn has.
