For many years, I found myself coming back to the same questions: Where can I buy yarns that inspire me to be creative? Where can I find yarns to make things that look and feel luxurious?

As a knitwear designer working in fashion, I was fortunate to work closely with mills and suppliers from around the world, and to have access to the beautiful and innovative yarns used to create knitwear for brands such as Christopher Esber and SIR The Label. Through this work, I developed a deep appreciation for the possibilities of yarn — the way a particular fibre, texture, colour or construction can completely change the character of a piece.

Yet I noticed that many of these yarns rarely made their way into the hands of independent knitters and makers.

That became the starting point for Knit in Progress.

Founded in 2025, Knit in Progress is a fusion of my experience in the knitwear industry, my relationships with mills and suppliers, and my passion for creative making. Based in Melbourne on the land of the Kulin Nation, we curate premium and innovative coned yarns from around the world, bringing the kinds of yarns I have worked with professionally into the hands of modern makers.

Our collection spans natural fibres such as cotton, wool, mohair and cashmere, alongside more unexpected and innovative materials including elastic and monofilament. Every yarn is tried and tested by us and selected for its potential — whether for machine knitting, hand knitting, crochet, weaving or simply inspiring your next idea.

Alongside my industry experience, my work as a knitwear educator has shaped the way I approach Knit in Progress. Having taught Knit and Design subjects at the University of Technology, I’m passionate about demystifying the world of knitwear and sharing the knowledge behind the materials and techniques.

Knit in Progress is about opening up that world — giving you access to yarns chosen not simply for what they are, but for what they can become.

Knit in Progress is an evolving project and community, created to inspire, educate and empower a new generation of modern makers.
