Fine mercerised cotton yarn is sleek with a silk like lustre. Mercerising is a type of finishing treatment which strengthens the cotton, making it more durable, and gives it a subtle shine with no synthetic materials. Due to this process, it has generous elasticity making it a great yarn for beginners! Fine mercerised cotton has a slightly dry hand feel and knits up crisp stitches. It is a fantastic yarn to knit year round but particularly great for warmer weather projects from tops to pants to post swim coverups. It would also be great for crochet, especially in the thicker count STANDARD MERCERISED COTTON.

Open work stitches like eyelets, ladders to show off the smoothness of the yarn but the elasticity of this yarn makes it a perfect vehicle for whatever you want to knit! 

  1. Hand feel swatch is 2 ends of CHAMBRAY BLUE knitted on standard domestic on tension 5. 
  2. Creative swatch is elongated laddered stripe knitted in BUTTER and CHAMBRAY BLUE on standard gauge. 

Standard domestics: 2 ends for fuller stitches.

HOW THICK IS THIS YARN?

Our yarn thickness is measured using the NM count, the industry standard in the textile world. This differs from ply, which is commonly used for hand knitting yarns. To help you visualize the yarn's thickness, we've compared it to everyday items.

This yarn thickness is between sewing thread and waxed dental floss, but more rounded and rope like.

DETAILS

Finishing:
Use steam press to set the shape then hand wash at 30℃ for 2-3 minutes for shrinkage.

Washing:
Gentle wash with cold or lukewarm not exceeding 30℃ using delicate or wool soap.
Do not bleach.
Do not rub, wring or tumble dry.
Iron at low heat.
Dry flat in the shade.
Dry cleanable.

We have a 30 day return policy, get in touch with us at info@knitinprogress.com so we can process it for you. Please ensure the yarns are returned to us in their original condition and weight. In addition to a refund we can also provide you with store credit or exchange on purchases that meet our return standards. As we are a small business, we cannot refund return postage costs.

  • How do I know what size yarn is right for my machine?

    We’ve done all the groundwork so you don’t need to!

  • What's the difference between hand and machine knit yarn?

    Machine knit yarn is coned yarn for even tension and has more strength than hand knit yarn. You can use both interchangeably but the biggest difference would be the stretch and strength machine knitting yarn has.
